The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, arrived in Pakistan on a state visit to Pakistan from on Saturday at the invitation of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Foreign Office announced Friday.

Dr. Pezeshkian’s visit, his first to Pakistan as president, will include a high-level delegation comprising Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi and other senior officials. The president is scheduled to meet with Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and hold delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Sharif.

This visit follows Prime Minister Sharif’s trip to Iran on May 26th, 2025, and aims to further solidify the strong bilateral relationship between the two countries. The visit was originally scheduled for July 26th but was postponed to August 2nd for unspecified reasons, although both foreign ministries offered no official explanation for the delay.

The visit is significant given the recent passing of former Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who visited Pakistan in April 2024. Dr. Pezeshkian’s itinerary may also include visits to Lahore and Karachi in addition to Islamabad. The visit is expected to focus on strengthening brotherly relations and furthering cooperation between Pakistan and Iran.
