Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Islamabad on a one-day visit on Monday to discuss regional developments and mutual cooperation.

Araghchi was welcomed by Additional Secretary West Asia Syed Asad Gillani, Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan and other senior officials. He later arrived at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to meet Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. His will also call upon Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari during his visit.

“This high-level visit reflects the deep-rooted and strong relationship between Pakistan and the brotherly nation of Iran. It also underscores the two countries’ shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation across all areas of mutual interest,” MoFA said in a statement.

“The two sides will also exchange views on regional and global developments,” the statement added.

The visit comes amid heightened tensions between Pakistan and India after the Pahalgam attack in Indian-Occupied Kashmir killed 26 tourists. India has given its forces operational freedom to act against Pakistan. In response, Pakistan has conducted large-scale military exercises and test launched several missiles.

Although the MoFA statement did not say that India-Pakistan tensions would be discussed in the meetings, a report by Reuters said Iranian ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam had confirmed that the matter would be on the agenda.
