Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has denied any agreement on a ceasefire with Israel, directly contradicting a statement by US President Donald Trump.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Araghchi stated early Tuesday that, “As Iran has repeatedly made clear: Israel launched war on Iran, not the other way around. As of now, there is NO ‘agreement’ on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations.”
Araghchi’s statement followed Trump’s announcement of a “complete and total” ceasefire between the two nations. However, Araghchi clarified that Iran’s military operations would cease only if Israel ended its aggression by 4 am Tehran time (0030 GMT).
He emphasized that the final decision on halting military operations would be made later. Araghchi confirmed that Iranian military actions continued until the deadline, thanking the Iranian Armed Forces for their defense of the country.
The denial comes after Iran launched a significant missile attack on the US military’s Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar on Monday, escalating tensions further.
This followed US strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites on Sunday, which were the latest escalation in the US-backed Israeli military assault on Iran that began on June 13th.
