Internet disruption drops connectivity to 20%

A significant internet outage hit Pakistan on Tuesday evening, August 19, 2025, reducing national connectivity to a mere 20% of normal levels, according to NetBlocks, a global internet observatory.

The disruption, which began late in the evening, affected multiple regions and caused widespread disruption to businesses, banking transactions, and general communication. The impact triggered considerable frustration and concern on social media.

NetBlocks reported that the outage severely affected the backbone operator, PTCL (Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited). PTCL acknowledged the issue on X (formerly Twitter), stating that they were experiencing data connectivity challenges on their PTCL and Ufone services and were working to restore services as quickly as possible.

The widespread nature of the outage caused significant inconvenience and hampered daily activities across the country.
