Indian plan of hegemony ‘blown into the air’: Dar

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar today briefed the media on Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts surrounding the recent conflict with India. He asserted that India’s claims of regional hegemony were decisively refuted during the conflict, stating that Pakistan’s kinetic actions, including the downing of six Indian fighter jets and one UAV, were met with international recognition. He further noted that Pakistan’s successful diplomatic outreach has even sparked criticism within India itself.

While acknowledging the current ceasefire, Dar expressed concern over continued Indian political rhetoric, attributing it to upcoming elections. He emphasized Pakistan’s readiness for dialogue with India, but stressed that this willingness is not born of desperation. Pakistan seeks a comprehensive dialogue encompassing terrorism and other key issues, including the Indus Waters Treaty. Dar issued a strong warning that any attempt by India to divert or halt water flow would be considered an act of war, and that the treaty, under international law, cannot be suspended or amended.

Dar highlighted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent four-nation tour of Turkiye, Iran, Azerbaijan, and Tajikistan, undertaken to express gratitude for their support during the conflict. He also announced that the Prime Minister will visit Saudi Arabia tomorrow to express appreciation for their solidarity.

He also said that after the Indian announcement of boycotting Turkiye, Pakistanis will put their support behind the brotherly nation.

The Deputy Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to peace and economic development, adding that Pakistan will assume the Presidency of the UN Security Council next month. Discussions during Pakistan’s presidency will focus on “Promoting International Peace and Security through Multilateralism and Peaceful Settlement of Disputes.”
