Google rolls out ‘AI Mode’ in Pakistan with advanced search features

Google has launched its AI Mode in Pakistan as part of the global expansion of its advanced search experience, following its initial debut in the United States earlier this year. The tool is available in English through the Google app on Android and iOS, as well as on mobile and desktop web.

At the core of the system is a customized version of Gemini 2.5, designed to handle longer and more detailed prompts that would usually need several searches. Google says early users are already typing queries two to three times longer than normal, using the feature to compare products, plan trips, or explore “how-to” questions.

For Pakistani users, the company expects wide-ranging applications. A traveler might ask for a five-day trip plan that balances sightseeing, adventure, and food, then request recommendations for traditional dishes in that region. Parents could seek free online resources for grade-9 math, followed by suggestions for interactive learning apps or YouTube channels.

Behind the scenes, AI Mode works with a technique called “query fan-out,” breaking down questions into smaller subtopics, running multiple searches simultaneously, and pulling results from the web, Google’s Knowledge Graph, and product databases.

The feature also offers multimodal interaction: users can type, speak, or upload images. For instance, a shopper might snap a photo of spices at a local market and ask how to use them in Pakistani cooking, with the AI continuing the conversation through follow-up questions.

While Google describes AI Mode as smarter and more comprehensive, it also acknowledges that answers may not always be completely accurate given the system’s early stage.
