Gas pipeline bombed in Kurram

Unknown assailants have bombed a major gas pipeline in Kurram district, southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, causing a significant disruption to gas supplies and raising concerns about energy security in the region.

Police sources reported that the incident occurred late at night near New Ada on the Indus Highway. The perpetrators planted explosives beneath the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) pipeline before detonating them. The resulting explosion was powerful enough to be heard from a considerable distance, shaking nearby areas.

The attack has resulted in a suspension of gas supply to several areas in and around Kurram. This is not the first such incident in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this year. Over the past three months, gas infrastructure in Lakki Marwat district has been targeted with explosives on four separate occasions.

Kurram and Lakki Marwat districts are known for their significant oil and gas reserves. The gas extracted from these areas is transported via pipeline to various industrial facilities in Punjab province. The ongoing attacks on gas infrastructure pose a serious threat to the country’s energy supply and highlight the vulnerability of critical national assets
