In Balochistan province, four people, including two women, were killed in two separate incidents of so-called ‘honour killings’ within the past 12 hours.
According to Levies officials, the first incident took place in Zehri tehsil of Khuzdar district, where a man shot his wife dead on suspicion of having an illicit relationship. He also killed another man whom he suspected of being involved in the relationship. The accused managed to escape after the killings, while the Levies registered a case.
The second incident occurred in the village of Ghulam Mustafa in Bhag, Bolan district. Levies officials said that a man named Ahmed Khan opened fire on his wife, Rabia, and on Muhammad Asif, son of Fazil, killing both. The suspect fled the scene, and Levies have launched further investigations.
Expressing deep concern over these incidents, Aurat Foundation and the VAWG Alliance called on the government to take immediate action against the rising cases of violence against women and girls in Balochistan. They said the recent horrifying incidents have exposed the hollowness of all rhetoric about humanity and social protection.
The statement further noted that reports from areas such as Zehri, Khuzdar, Bhag, Bolan, Mastung, Saryab, and Khrotabad—covering incidents from so-called honour killings to the strangulation of young girls and other brutal acts of violence—paint a chilling picture of Balochistan and show that women and girls in the province remain profoundly unsafe.
