US President Donald Trump revealed on Tuesday that he was honoured by praise from Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir, who credited him with a crucial role in preventing an escalation of the India-Pakistan conflict, a move the Field Marshal said saved millions of lives.

Speaking to US military leaders, President Trump disclosed that the Pakistani Field Marshal had lauded his efforts to de-escalate tensions, specifically noting that, “If the war had continued, the situation would have been much worse.” President Trump expressed his genuine appreciation for the remarks, stating, “I really liked his comment,” and adding that they made a positive impression on him. According to President Trump, Field Marshal Munir, the Chief of Army Staff, made these observations in the presence of others, including two generals, lending significant weight to his words.

President Trump’s statement follows two recent high-level meetings with Field Marshal Munir. The first took place in July during a luncheon in the White House Cabinet Room, where the Field Marshal acknowledged President Trump’s wise leadership and his ability to understand and tackle the multilateral challenges facing the global community.

The second meeting occurred earlier this month at the White House, where President Trump held a joint session with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Munir. During this meeting, Prime Minister Sharif also expressed profound admiration for President Trump, calling him a “proponent of peace” who is making sincere efforts to resolve conflicts worldwide.

A statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed the sentiments, noting that during a cordial and enthusiastic meeting with President Trump in the Oval Office, the Prime Minister praised the American President’s “bold, courageous, and decisive actions.” These actions, the Prime Minister highlighted, facilitated a ceasefire between Pakistan and India, thereby averting a potential major tragedy in South Asia.
