Claim: Visuals from the aftermath on the attack that left 26 tourists dead in Pahalgam purportedly show a child crying after losing a parent, as well as a meadow with bodies scattered everywhere.

Fact: The video of the child crying is not recent. At least one user Akassh Ashok Gupta (X/@peepoye_) even wrote that the video was a ”’representative’ visual.

The visual is actually from 2020, when a Kashmiri man, Bashir Ahmed Khan, was killed in front of his grandson, during a gun battle between Kashmiri fighters and Indian forces. The incident was widely covered by international media.

The images showing bodies lying in the meadow have been generated through Meta’s Artificial Intelligence as indicated by the watermark in the bottom right of the photo. A mark has been added to indicate the Meta AI watermark.
