Recent rains and floods have turned life into a nightmare in Beshoni village, Buner district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Mohammad Ayaz Yousafzai, a 30-year-old resident currently in Dubai, says all 12 members of his family perished due to the floods and mountain storms.

“I learned through Facebook; my relatives’ phones were off. It felt like the Day of Judgment had passed over me. My sister, three nieces, two nephews of my uncle, my cousin’s son, an aunt, and an uncle—all were swept away by the water. Some bodies are still under the water,” Ayaz said.

He adds that the village currently faces a severe shortage of clean water, food, and young people.

Local journalist, Mahboob Jabar, says 157 bodies have been recovered so far in the Gadezai Malikpur Union Council. Some identified bodies have been buried, but entire families have been lost, and dozens of bodies remain in the village market awaiting identification.

Villagers say that over 200 houses existed in the village, and now many are submerged. Floodwaters are still flowing through many areas.

Former provincial assembly member, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor, wrote on his Facebook page that he performed the funeral rites for 51 bodies in a single night.

Another resident, Abdul Wahid said, “The bodies of eight members of my family lie before me. Judgment Day has come to the village. The destruction is so immense that neither the number of houses nor the dead can be ascertained. Children, women, men, animals, and houses—all have been swept away by the water.”

Meanwhile, according to an initial report from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the rains and floods over the past 48 hours have killed 210 people and injured 21 across the province. Due to the severe damage in Buner alone, the government, on the special instructions of the Chief Minister, has announced Rs 15 crore in aid.
