At least eight soldiers have been martyred in an attack on a military convoy in Ghunda Mela, Orakzai District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to to local police sources.

The terrorists targeted a convoy of the Orakzai scouts as it moved through the area. Police sources added that several attackers have been killed in retaliatory action by security forces, but stopped short of giving an actual number.

A cleanup operation is currently underway with senior police officials present on the site of the attack.
