The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a notification reallocating reserved seats in the national and provincial assemblies, following a Supreme Court ruling on June 27. The decision significantly favors the ruling coalition, effectively overturning previous seat allocations for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The Supreme Court’s Constitutional Bench determined that the PTI was not entitled to the seats reserved for women and minorities. This led to a redistribution of these seats, with the ruling coalition receiving the majority.

National Assembly

In terms of reserved seats for women, five reserved seats from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) were restored, with two going to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and one to the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F). Eleven seats from Punjab were also restored, with ten allocated to the PML-N and one to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

For minorities, Three minority seats in the National Assembly were restored and distributed among the PML-N, PPP, and JUI-F.

KP Assembly

21 women’s seats were reinstated, with 8 allocated to JUI-F, 6 to PML-N, and 5 to PPP. The PTI and Awami National Party (ANP) each received one seat. Four minority seats were restored, with two going to JUI-F, one to PML-N, and one to PPP.

Punjab Assembly

24 women’s seats were restored, with 21 going to PML-N, one each to PPP, Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q). Three minority seats were restored, with two allocated to PML-N and one to PPP.

Sindh Assembly

Two women’s seats and one minority seat were reinstated, with one seat each going to the PPP and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P).
