The death toll from heavy rains and flooding across Pakistan has risen to 87, with another 149 people injured, according to the National Disaster Management Authority.
According to the NDMA’s situation report, which shows data from July 26 to June 9, 30 of these deaths were recorded in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Meanwhile, Punjab recorded 29 deaths, Sindh recorded 16 deaths, Balochistan recorded 11 while one death was reported from Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The biggest cause of the casualties has been recorded as house collapses followed by flash flooding.
Punjab’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority has announced that heavy rains are expected to continue in the province till July 13.
The NDMA has also announced that Kabul, Indus, Chenab and Jhelum rivers are facing rising water levels. Low level flooding is expected at Tarbela, Kalabagh, Chashma, Taunsa, Mangla, Marala and Khanki.
Water flows are also expected to rise significantly in the streams in Jhal Magsi, Kachhi, Sibi, Qila Saifullah, Zhob and Musakhel districts in Balochistan.
On the other hand, the severe heat has also accelerated glacial melting in the northern areas, with vulnerable areas being exposed to flooding.
