Dera Ismail Khan Deputy Commissioner Sarah Rahman has taken swift action to address the concerns of minority communities in the district, including a crematorium for the Hindu community.

Rahman, who is the first female DC of the district, held an open court session specifically for minorities where she directly resolved several issues and pledged to tackle others with urgency.

A key issue raised by the Hindu community was the lack of a crematorium (shamshan ghat) in Dera Ismail Khan, preventing them from performing essential religious rites. This, they explained, has been a long-standing demand.

DC Rahman assured the community that she would write to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government to secure immediate approval for the construction of a crematorium.

For issues falling under the federal government’s purview, DC Rahman promised to raise these concerns with the federal authorities to find a collaborative solution between provincial and federal levels.

She emphasized that resolving the problems faced by minority communities is a legal, constitutional, and moral responsibility, and she is committed to finding swift resolutions.

According to a 2023 population census, minorities make up less than 1% of the population of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Christians and Hindus.
