Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is set to embark Afghanistan on a one-day visit to Kabul on Saturday.
Addressing a routine press briefing in Islamabad on Saturday, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Shafqat Ali Khan said that the Dar’s engagements in Afghanistan will cover the entire range of Pak-Afghan relations.
The spokesman said that Dar will call on Afghan acting prime minister, Afghan deputy prime minister for economic affairs and hold delegation level talks with the Afghan foreign minister during his day-long visit.
“The talks will cover the entire range of the Pakistan-Afghan, focusing on ways and means to deepen cooperation in all areas of mutual interest including security, trade, connectivity and people-to-people ties,” Khan said.
“The deputy prime minister’s visit is a reflection of Pakistan’s commitment to enhance sustained engagement with the brotherly country of Afghanistan,” he added.
On Thursday, Dar had announced that preparatory meetings were underway to pave the way for his visit to Kabul. He had added that the visit would help to resolve the deadlock that had characterised Pakistan’s relations with Afghanistan in recent years.
The visit comes as Pakistan proceeds with the second phase of deporting refugees back to Afghanistan. It also comes amid sustained statements by Islamabad that terrorists including Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and Baloch Liberation Army are operating from safe havens in Afghanistan.
