Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has thanked China for supporting Pakistan’s sovereignty and integrity and reiterated his commitment to upholding ceasefire.
Dar met Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC) Liu Jianchao during his three-day visit to China on Tuesday. According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides discussed the regional situation following the ceasefire between Pakistan and India.
According to the statement, Dar “reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to a peaceful neighbourhood while affirming its right and capability to defend its territory and people”.
Dar also stressed that the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions, remains vital for lasting peace in South Asia.
Dar’s visit to China came after a ceasefire between Pakistan and India through the mediation of United States, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye. Although tensions have persisted, the ceasefire has held and troops on both sides have slowly returned to peace time positions.
