Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, will meet with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington on July 25. This will be the first official meeting between the two. While the full agenda remains undisclosed, the talks are expected to cover several key issues.

Although an agenda for the meeting has not been formally issued, Dar is likely to express gratitude to President Trump for his role in de-escalating tensions between Pakistan and India following recent border clashes. This follows Pakistan’s nomination of President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his efforts. Trump’s offer to mediate the Kashmir dispute, welcomed by Pakistan but rejected by India, is also anticipated to be a discussion point.

The ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, including India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and continued aggression along the border, are expected to be central to the discussions. Trade and economic cooperation between the two countries may also be addressed.

The meeting, confirmed by US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce, will include senior leaders from both sides. The talks take place against the backdrop of the April attack in Pahalgam, the subsequent military exchange between India and Pakistan, and India’s accusations against Pakistan, which Pakistan denies.
