Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said on Thursday that Pakistan is planning to build a Peshawar-Kabul highway in Chinese support.

Dar made the remarks during a briefing after returning from a three-day visit to China, where he met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Afghan Interim Foreign Minister Amir Muttaqi.

During the briefing on Thursday, Dar said that this was not an ordinary visit. He added that Tuesday had been dedicated to bilateral dealings with China and Wednesday was dedicated to trilateral dealings with Afghan FM Amir Muttaqi attending as well.

Dar said that it had been decided to include Afghanistan in CPEC 2.0. He said that in addition to railway links planned to connect Pakistan to Central Asia through Afghanistan, there was a highway being planned between Peshawar and Kabul as well.

The foreign minister said that the agreements he had made in his recent visit to Kabul have already been implemented. He added that it has been agreed that both countries will continue to engage regularly at a high level.

Dar also said that one of the first calls he had after the Pakistan-India ceasefire was with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. He added that China had lauded Pakistan for resolutely defending its sovereignty.
