The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Sindh has conducted a major operation, arresting two highly wanted terrorists affiliated with the Zinbaiyun Brigade.

Among the arrested is Masoom Raza, also known as Imran Mota, who was involved in the attack on prominent religious scholar Maulana Aurangzeb Farooqi. Imran Mota was on the CTD’s Red Book of most wanted terrorists and was being actively pursued by the Sindh Police, CTD, and other security agencies.

During the investigation, CTD officials revealed that Imran Mota personally shot and killed Qari Ins in front of NED University. He was also involved in the killing of Qari Abdul Rahman in the Sherpao Colony area.

The CTD further disclosed that in 2012, a major terrorist attack targeted Maulana Aurangzeb Farooqi’s car near Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Moti Mahal. The assailants opened heavy fire from both sides of the road using Kalashnikov and Type 56 rifles, hitting the vehicle with more than 20 bullets.

The attack resulted in the deaths of seven people, including four police officers, while Maulana Aurangzeb Farooqi and a police officer were seriously injured. Following the incident, widespread riots broke out across the city, leading to the deaths of 14 more people in subsequent violence.

The CTD warned that other elements in the city may still be planning similar attacks. Their supporters have been identified, and cases related to terrorism financing will also be registered against them.
