An operation by the Counter Terrorism Department in Karak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa killed five terrorists and injured multiple others on Monday.
The operation was carried out in the Mir Kalam Banda are in Karak’s Banda Daud Shah tehsil on the basis of an intelligence report.
Authorities put security on high alert in the area after an intense exchange of fire. At least five terrorists were killed and multiple others injured. However, no casualties to CTD officials have been reported so far. Authorities have also put hospital in the area on alert.
DPO Karak Shehbaz Ilahi told the media that the operation was ‘ongoing’ as there was a threat of more terrorists lurking in the area.
The operation comes a day after a major peace jirga took place in Karak. Attended by tribal elders, locals and representatives of major political parties, the jirga called upon the government to take decisive action against terrorists in the area.
The jirga also demanded that the distinction between ‘good and bad Taliban’ should be brought to an end otherwise local militias would take matters into their own hands and launch an operation.
