Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived in Pakistan on August 21, 2025, to participate in the sixth Strategic Dialogue between China and Pakistan. The visit follows a trilateral meeting in Kabul on August 20th, involving Minister Wang, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi. This trilateral dialogue focused on strengthening cooperation against terrorism and enhancing collaboration in trade, transit, regional development, and other areas, including extending the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to Afghanistan.

The sixth Strategic Dialogue is expected to cover a wide range of bilateral issues, building upon the fifth round held in Beijing in May 2024. Pakistan and China share a long-standing strategic partnership encompassing trade, energy, defense, and infrastructure. The arrival of Minister Wang was confirmed by the Pakistani Foreign Office on X (formerly Twitter), showing a photograph of his meeting with Foreign Minister Dar.

Minister Wang’s visit comes ahead of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s planned trip to Beijing at the end of August for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. During this visit, Prime Minister Sharif is also expected to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, and formally launch the second phase of the CPEC (CPEC-II), focusing on industrial cooperation. CPEC-II, initially planned for launch five years prior, has been delayed. In July 2025, Pakistan and China agreed to launch joint training programs in various fields as part of CPEC-II.
