Bunyanum Marsoos a defining chapter in Pakistan’s military history: COAS

In response to what it termed “dastardly” Indian military attacks on May 6th and 7th, 2025, resulting in civilian casualties, the Pakistan Armed Forces launched Operation Bunyanum Marsoos (“Wall of Steel”) on May 10th, 2025. The operation, part of a larger military conflict named Marka-e-Haq, involved a coordinated, multi-domain response across air, land, sea, and cyber warfare, Inter-Services Public Relations said on Monday.

According to ISPR, General Munir visited injured soldiers in CMH Rawalpindi and called the operation a defining chapter in the country’s military history.

ISPR also said five Indian fighter jets (three Rafales, one SU-30, and one Mig-29) and a Heron UAS were destroyed during initial engagements. Pakistan’s air defense systems reportedly prevented any Indian aircraft from entering Pakistani airspace.

Operation Bunyanum Marsoos targeted 26 military installations and support facilities in Indian-Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and mainland India. These included air bases in Suratgarh, Sirsa, Bhuj, and other locations; BrahMos missile storage facilities; S-400 air defense systems; military command headquarters; and facilities allegedly used to support terrorism within Pakistan. The operation also involved the deployment of precision-guided long-range Fatah series missiles, along with other advanced munitions. Pakistani drones were used to demonstrate long-range capabilities and maintain a presence over major Indian cities, including New Delhi. Simultaneously, cyber operations targeted critical Indian infrastructure.

The military emphasized that despite the scale of the operation, its response was proportionate and aimed only at targets directly involved in the attacks on Pakistani civilians. The statement highlighted a concurrent increase in Indian-sponsored terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, which Pakistan attributed to a deliberate attempt by India to distract its forces. Counter-terrorism operations continued in the west throughout the conflict.

The ISPR statement expressed gratitude to the Pakistani people, political leadership, and various military and civilian branches for their support. The military also acknowledged the contributions of Pakistani scientists and engineers for developing indigenous technologies used in the operation and praised the Pakistani media for countering Indian disinformation.
