A suicide bombing near Shahwani Stadium in Quetta’s Sariab area claimed the lives of at least 13 people and injured 35 others on Tuesday night.
The attack occurred shortly after a public meeting organized by the Balochistan National Party (BNP-Mengal) to commemorate the death anniversary of Sardar Attaullah Mengal.
Prominent political figures, including BNP President Sardar Akhtar Mengal, PkMAP chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Asghar Khan Achakzai of the ANP, and former senator Mir Kabeer Muhammad Shai, were present at the rally but escaped unharmed.
However, former BNP MPA Mir Ahmed Nawaz Baloch and the party’s central labour secretary Musa Jan were among the injured.
The bomber detonated explosives in the stadium’s parking area as attendees dispersed, approximately 15 minutes after the meeting concluded. Six vehicles, including those belonging to politicians, were damaged.
Authorities confirmed the attack was a suicide bombing and launched a high-level investigation. The injured are receiving medical care, and the deceased have been identified.
