A bomb exploded near a sit in led by Balochistan National Party President Akhtar Mengal in Mastung on Saturday. At least four BNP workers were injured in the attack.

According to police, the explosion was a suicide bombing that took place near the Luck Pass in Mastung. The BNP leadership remained safe in the attack.

Mengal said that his workers had found a suspicious individual near the sit-in but had prevented him from coming near the gathering.

The bomber exploded himself 400 yards away from the sit-in due to fear of being caught, Mengal added.
The BNP president said that four party workers were injured in the incident.

However, he added that his protest would continue to proceed towards his destination peacefully.

Balochistan government’s spokesman also confirmed that the bombing was a suicide attack and added that protecting the participants of the sit in is the government’s responsibility. He added that negotiations with Mengal over the sit-in are underway.

Mengal had announced a long march from Wadh to Quetta to protest against the arrest of Baloch Yakjehti Committee activists including Mahrang Baloch. However, the Quetta administration has denied permission for the protest. Mengal claimed on Saturday that 250 of his party workers have been arrested.
