In a major blow to the Baloch Liberation Army, the group’s senior leader Mushtaq Kohi was killed in Kabul on Sunday.
Sources told Khabar Kada that Kohi was stabbed to death by an unidentified person.
Kohi was a key member of the Command Council, the decision making body of the BLA’s Jeeyand faction.
Split into factions, the BLA has claimed multiple terrorist attacks in Balochistan in recent years including the attack in Mangocher on Friday night that martyred 18 soldiers from the Pakistan army.
The BLA’s Jeeyand faction had claimed responsibility for the suicide attack in Turbat in June 2023. The attack had made headlines due to the involvement of a female suicide bomber named Sumaiya Qalandarani. At least one security personnel had been martyred in the attack.
Kohi’s killing comes after repeated statements from Pakistani authorities calling upon the Afghan government to prevent the use of their territory for attacks against Pakistan. Several senior leaders of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan have also been killed in Afghanistan over recent years.
