Police and security forces are steadily making progress towards disarming the warring tribes in Kurram and demolishing bunkers.

Authorities said on Tuesday that 30 bunkers have been demolished in the district so far. The total number of bunkers in the area is estimated to be around 250.

Official sources have reiterated that bunkers belonging to both sides of the conflict will be demolished without an y discrimination.

Meanwhile, authorities have also stepped up action against miscreants after the attack on Assistant Commissioner Saeed Manan.

The flow of aid to Parachinar and surrounding villages is also continuing at a steady pace. Authorities said on Tuesday that at least 453 trucks carrying food, medicine and other supplies have reached the area.

However, each convoy is despatched under strict security to prevent any untoward incidents. At least 40 trucks are still stuck in Thall, waiting for security clearance to make their way to the district.

Another jirga of tribal leaders from both sides is expected to take place on Wednesday.

Confiscating weapons and demolishing bunkers was a key part of the peace agreement signed between tribes in early January. The agreement was brokered by a government organised grand jirga after the violence in Kurram between Shia and Sunni tribes had been raging on for three months and had claimed over a hundred lives.

In less than a month since the agreement was signed, the peace has been violated multiple times. The government responded with a search and clearance operation from January 19-21 that confiscated a large number of weapons. Still, tribal leaders have called for continuous engagement and efforts to make sure the agreement is implemented.
