Security forces have apprehended ten suspected terrorists responsible for an attack on a convoy in Kurram tribal district on February 17, police announced Wednesday.
The arrests, made during operations across various areas of Kurram, follow a fierce exchange of fire between the militants and security personnel.
The attack on the aid convoy had resulted in the martyrdom of four law enforcement officers, and injuries to four more. One army officer was also martyred in the attack. The casualties also included one truck driver.
Official sources had said later that over 60 trucks had set off for Kurram but only nine had actually made it to Kurram. Several trucks were also looted as they tried to return to Thall.
The incident had once again raised concerns about the state of affairs in Kurram. While the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government says that there is no shortage of any kind in the district, aid is still only flowing into the district at lengthy intervals.
Meanwhile, the government has announced that it will once again conduct an operation to clear Kurram of militants and confiscate weapons. Barrister Saif said that the operation will be specially targeted in the area where the convoy was attacked.
