Police in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province thwarted multiple attacks on police stations in Karak and Bannu districts overnight. In Karak, unidentified assailants launched an attack on the Grigri police station in Banda Daud Shah tehsil late at night.
According to a Karak police spokesperson, the attackers fled after police retaliated. Local residents joined police in responding to the incident.
DPO Karak, Shehbaz Ilahi, stated that the cowardly attackers launched their assault under the cover of darkness, but the police successfully repelled the attack.
Meanwhile, in Bannu, a major assault on the Miriyan police station and the Nurror Mazanga police post was also repulsed. Militants used heavy and automatic weapons in their attack. DPO Salim Khan Kalachi reported that a strong police response forced the militants to retreat.
He added that several militants were injured or killed, but their accomplices managed to carry them away. Three police officers sustained minor injuries during the attacks.
Following the incidents, police launched search operations in both areas. The DPO in Bannu vowed that the presence of terrorists in Bannu would not be tolerated.
