Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police repulsed an attack on a check-post in Lakki Marwat on Saturday.

Armed assailants opened fire on the Abbasa Khattak check-post early in the day, leading to an intense exchange of fire between both sides. Heavy munitions were used in the exchange.

The police response injured one of the two attackers, who were forced to leave behind their motorcycle as they escaped.

Members of the local community also came out in support of the police as the exchange of fire unfolded.

A police vehicle that set out to aid the check-post under assault was targeted by an improvised explosive device (IED). The blast caused injuries to the vehicle’s driver.

Police officials along with locals are undertaking a search of the general area to find the terrorists who escaped the scene of the attack.

On February 22, police had defused a 45-kg bomb planted underneath a road in the same area.
