Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police repelled an attack on the Dharey Pul checkpost in Bannu without any loss of life on Monday night.
According to police sources, the attackers numbered 18 or 19 and had arrived on eight motorcycles at the checkpost.
At least three of attackers were detected as they crawled towards the checkpost in the cover of darkness. Police said that the attackers planned to destroy the post’s thermal imaging cameras to allow the rest of the attackers to proceed.
However, as the initial attackers were engaged by the police, the rest of the party joined in the attack.
A strong response from the police officials on duty repelled the attack and forced the attackers to flee. No loss of life was reported among the police.
The successful operation was praised by Inspector General Police Zulfiqar Hameed as well as Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
According to a report published by Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, revealed that a total of 105 militant attacks were reported across the country in March. This made the month the second deadliest since 2015.
