A heavily armed group of militants launched a major assault on a police checkpoint in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province’s Bannu district late last night. The attack, which targeted the Khuni Khel police post within the limits of Wazir Police Station, sparked a fierce gun battle that lasted several hours.

Police officers and local residents bravely fought back against the attackers, engaging in an intense exchange of gunfire. The militants used both small arms and heavy weapons in their assault, but police responded swiftly and effectively. Civilians displayed remarkable courage, working with law enforcement to repel the attack. The combined efforts of police and citizens forced the militants to retreat.

Bannu District Police Officer (DPO) Salim Abbas Kalachi praised the bravery of the police officers and the unwavering support of the local community. He stated that the citizens’ courageous participation significantly boosted police morale. The DPO assured the public that the safety and security of their lives and property would be ensured, and that justice would prevail.

Reinforcements have been deployed to the area to further tighten the cordon around the militants, according to a Bannu police spokesperson. The exchange of fire continues, and security forces are conducting an operation to eliminate the remaining militants.
