The attendees of the National Security Workshop–27 (NSW–27) recently travelled to the General Headquarters (GHQ) to be informed about the overall security situation. They received detailed updates on the regional and domestic security outlook and the current national security environment of Pakistan. The NSW–27 is a main program run by the National Defence University (NDU), bringing together a varied group of important people: lawmakers, top civilian and military officials, professors, and community leaders.
A key part of the visit was an open discussion with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS). The COAS described the ever-changing region as being shaped by increased rivalry between major powers, attacks by terrorists crossing borders, and modern, multi-faceted threats (hybrid threats). He underlined that despite difficult issues, such as militancy supported from outside the country and warfare centred on information, the nation’s Armed Forces, intelligence agencies, and law enforcement continue to show strong commitment and high standards to protect the country.
The COAS expressed confidence in Pakistan’s future, stating it is an important nation that is certain to achieve its rightful status among global nations. He mentioned that the skill and dedication of the Armed Forces during the Marka-e-Haq operation have already improved Pakistan’s standing worldwide. Field Marshal Munir strongly emphasized that the greatest strength of the country is its unity, and working together, they will overcome the malicious plans of their enemies.
The participants also learned about ongoing national efforts to fight various illegal activities that negatively affect security. These actions include a focused campaign against illicit trade (smuggling), drug dealing (narcotics trafficking), and organized criminal groups. Updates were given on stricter border controls and the sending back of foreigners who are in the country illegally, all designed to maintain domestic order and safeguard national interests.
To wrap up the briefing, the COAS restated that the safety of Pakistan’s borders and the protection of every citizen is the Army’s top priority and will never be jeopardized. He assured that the Pakistan Army remains committed to assisting both federal and provincial governments, stressing that coordinated efforts and strong collaboration among all institutions are absolutely essential for achieving lasting peace, stability, and prosperity in the country.
