The multinational maritime exercise Aman-2025 concluded its five-day run in the Arabian Sea on Tuesday with a spectacular display of naval prowess. A grand fleet review, witnessed by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, and other dignitaries aboard the replenishment ship PNS Moawin, featured over two dozen ships from participating nations.
The impressive fleet, led by Pakistan Navy’s flagship PNS Tipu Sultan, followed by PNS Taimur and thirteen other vessels from various international navies, executed a series of coordinated maneuvers. Participating international navies included China (Plans Baotou-133 and Plans Gaoyouhu), Saudi Arabia (HMS Jazan and HMS Hail), UAE (Abu Dhabi (CVT) P-191), Malaysia (KD Terengganu-174), Japan (JS Murasame), Sri Lanka (SLNS Vijayabahu), Indonesia (KRI Bung Tomo-357), Iran (Jamaran), Bangladesh (BNS Somdura Joy), and Oman (RNOV Sadh). The Pakistan Navy’s participation included, in addition to the aforementioned PNS Tipu Sultan and PNS Taimur, PNS Hunain, PNS Yamama, PNS Babar, PNS Saif, PNS Himmat, PNS Alamgir, PNS Nasr, and the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency’s (PMSA) Kolachi.
A key highlight was a demonstration of PNS Moawin’s replenishment capabilities. While underway, the ship simultaneously refueled the frigate PNS Taimur (port side) and the destroyer PNS Tipu Sultan (starboard side). Pakistan Navy Sea King helicopters provided overhead support throughout the fleet review, with Pakistani crews performing the traditional Nara-i-Takbeer (Allahu Akbar) shout as they passed PNS Moawin.
The aerial display was equally impressive, featuring a flypast of Pakistan’s Sea King and Z-9 helicopters, P-3 Orion and ATR 72 maritime patrol aircraft, and JF-17 Thunder fighter jets, joined by a single Turkish ATR maritime patrol aircraft. The dignitaries aboard PNS Moawin responded with cheers and applause to the impressive display.
Beyond the fleet review, Aman-2025 included several operational drills. A simulated counter-piracy exercise showcased the coordinated response of a Pakistan Navy ship, patrol boats, and Sea King helicopters to neutralize pirate attackers. The exercise culminated with depth charges fired by PNS Taimur and PNS Tipu Sultan. A further demonstration involved the successful targeting and destruction of a large “Killer Tomato” target in the sea, showcasing the navies’ precision targeting capabilities.
