Authorities are continuing to demolish bunkers across Kurram as part of a peace agreement earlier this year, although roads leading into the district remain closed.

According to official sources, a total of 988 bunkers have been demolished in Kurram so far. These include 635 in Upper Kurram and 353 in Lower Kurram.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Ameer Nawaz said that more bunkers will be demolished in the coming days, as the operation is necessary for long-lasting peace in the area.

Even as the operation against bunkers continues to proceed, the roads leading into the district continue to remain closed. A stage-in in front of the Parachinar press club against the road closures is still going on as well.

With roads closed, the prices of commodities had risen in the district with tomatoes being sold for Rs500/kg, potatoes for Rs200/kg and chicken being sold for Rs1,000/kg.

Parachinar has been closed for several months due to an armed conflict between Shia and Sunni tribes in the region. Although the government managed to broker a peace agreement in January, the cessation of hostilities has proved to be temporary.

Since then, authorities have tried to keep the Thall-Parachinar highway open and has conducted operations to disarm combatants and demolish bunkers.
