Afghan diplomat says preparations underway to host and employ refugees in Afghanistan

Afghanistan’s consul general in Peshawar has urged all Afghan refugees in Pakistan to return to their country and has promised appropriate housing and employment opportunities.

Addressing a press conference in Peshawar today Hafiz Mohibullah Shakir, relayed a message of peace and encouraged Afghan refugees in Pakistan to return home. He stated that peace has returned to Afghanistan, allowing Afghans to resume their businesses and other activities.

The consul general added that he had discussed the matter of the Afghan refugees with Taliban Supreme Leader Haibatullah Akhundzada during the Eid holidays.

Shakir explained that temporary arrangements are being made for those returning, with efforts underway to ensure suitable housing and dignified employment opportunities for all returnees. He added that a commission has been set up by Afghanistan to manage the affairs of refugees.

He assured Afghan refugees that no cause for concern exists, emphasizing that work is progressing under the directives of the Taliban supreme leader.

Shakir confirmed that the repatriation process is actively underway, urging all Afghan refugees to participate fully. 

He also announced the arrival of a high-level delegation from the Islamic Emirate in Islamabad for discussions with Pakistani officials regarding refugee repatriation and related matters. The delegation will work to ensure the message of return reaches all Afghan refugee camps in Pakistan.
