EU and Denmark have provided millions of dollars in aid for Afghanistan

The Afghan has fallen further in value after United States President Donald Trump announced that he would ban all aid for the next 90 days.

The US dollar is now trading for AFN76 in Kabul and is under risk of falling further unless foreign assistance continues.

In an executive order, Trump announced on Monday that “foreign aid industry and bureaucracy are not aligned with American interests and in many cases antithetical to American values”. He added that the foreign aid being distributed by the US across the globe was being used destabilize ‘world peace’.

The order also stated that new aid will only be disbursed if it aligns with Trump’s foreign policy aims.

Meanwhile, Denmark and the European Union have announced millions of dollars in aid for Afghanistan to aid humanitarian efforts in the struggling economy.

The European Union announced $17.4 million for the World Food Program to provide nutrition for Afghans during the harsh winter season. The aid comes at a time when an estimated 15 million people are facing ‘emergency levels of food insecurity’ in Afghanistan.

WFP said that the new funding would allow it to provide food to six million people every month.

Denmark has donated $2.8 million to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs’ fund for Afghanistan.

The funding will help alleviate several humanitarian issues faced by the Afghan population including food shortage, lack of proper health services and essential needs of internally displaced families.
