Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met the acting US Chargé d’ Affaires Natalie Baker on Thursday. The meeting focused on strengthening Pakistan-US relations and cooperation, particularly in the fight against terrorism.
Chargé d’ Affaires Baker strongly condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Pakistan, including the Jaffar Express hijackinging, expressing deep condolences to the families of the victims. She emphasized that terrorism is a global issue requiring concerted international action.
The meeting saw a productive exchange on bilateral cooperation, including bolstering counterterrorism efforts. Both sides agreed to hold a counterterrorism dialogue in June this year. Specific discussions included strategies for combating terrorism and enhancing information sharing.
Naqvi expressed gratitude for US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism. He also affirmed Pakistan’s commitment to taking strong action against terrorists and developing a comprehensive counterterrorism policy. He further pledged cooperation with the US in facilitating the repatriation of undocumented Pakistani citizens from the United States.
Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, who also attended the meeting along with the US Political Counselor, Zack Harkin Ryder, and Pakistan’s Federal Secretary of Interior, Khurram Agha, was congratulated by Baker on his appointment. Chaudhry highlighted Pakistan’s unwavering sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and its strategic partnership with the United States.
Naqvi announced that a Pakistan-US Caucus meeting will be held in New York on April 30.
