DG ISPR, Info minister to brief political parties on India tensions

at 7:19 PM

Amid escalating tensions with India, Pakistan’s Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lt General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry will jointly brief top leaders from all political parties on Sunday on the current national security situation, according to state media.

Radio Pakistan said that the ‘high-level background’ briefing will reportedly focus on Pakistan-India relations and the implications of recent events. The agenda includes an overview of Pakistan’s military preparedness, ongoing diplomatic initiatives, and the government’s official stance on key issues.

However, the time and location of the briefing has not been made public. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has announced it will not attend the event.

These heightened tensions stem from accusations made by India, without providing evidence, alleging cross-border links to recent attacks. India’s response has included the cancellation of Pakistani visas, suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, skirmishes along the Line of Control (LoC), and veiled threats of airstrikes. Pakistan has vehemently denied any involvement and has responded with retaliatory measures.

The escalating standoff, marked by exchanges of fire along the LoC and reciprocal actions, has fueled concerns of a wider conflict, prompting international appeals for restraint and renewed dialogue. Pakistan successfully test-fired an improved version of its nuclear-capable Abdali missile on Saturday, showcasing its 450-kilometer range.
