The United Nations Security Council has strongly condemned the March 11 terrorist attack on a passenger train in Balochistan province.

At least 25 Pakistani citizens were killed when the Jaffar Express, traveling from Quetta to Peshawar, was attacked near Sibi.  Several passengers were also taken hostage.

The Balochistan Liberation Army’s Majeed Brigade claimed responsibility for the attack, which the Security Council described as “heinous and cowardly.”

In a statement released on Friday, the Council expressed its deepest condolences to the victims’ families and the people of Pakistan, wishing a swift recovery for the injured.

The Security Council reiterated that terrorism in all its forms is a grave threat to international peace and security. Members stressed the importance of holding those responsible for the attack—perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors—accountable and bringing them to justice.

They urged all nations to cooperate fully with the Pakistani government in its investigation and prosecution efforts, in accordance with international law and relevant Security Council resolutions.

The statement emphasized that terrorism is never justifiable, regardless of motive. The Council reaffirmed the global commitment to combating terrorism through all legal means, while upholding international human rights, refugee, and humanitarian laws.
