After decades of waiting, the district headquarters for South Waziristan Upper Mehsud area has finally been inaugurated in Ladha.
The opening ceremony was attended by Member of National Assembly (MNA) Zubair Wazir, Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Asif Khan Mehsud, former Senator Maulana Muhammad Saleh Shah, Ladha Mayor Taj Malook Mehsud, Sarwakai Mayor Tehsil Shah Faisal Ghaziand marks a significant milestone for the region.
After the inauguration, locals took out a rally from Makeen Market to Ladha to celebrate the occasion.
Speakers at the occasion said that the far-off location of the headquarters had posed numerous problems for the district and had been a major factor in keeping the area underdeveloped.
For many years, despite being a district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, South Waziristan’s district headquarters was located hundreds of kilometres away in Tank District – a situation dating back to before Pakistan’s independence.
This caused immense hardship for the millions of residents. The establishment of a district headquarters within South Waziristan itself has been a long-standing public demand.
The inauguration, a result of collaborative efforts between the Frontier Corps (FC) headquarters and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government, is seen as a crucial first step towards the development, prosperity, and improved security of the region.
