Tribal elders met security officials in Peshawar on Thursday to discuss the security situation in Kurram and possible measures to solve the crisis.
The talks included the additional brigade commander and wing commander, who negotiated with elders from Boshehra.
According to reports, security officials asked the tribal elders to support their action in Kurram to bring lasting peace to the area. They stressed that continuity in the policies of the authorities must be ensured to make significant gains against militants.
In response, the tribal elders assured security officials of their complete cooperation in the ongoing operation against militants in Kurram. However, they demanded that the operation should be conducted without any discrimination.
The tribal leaders also told the officials about the difficulties faced by the people of Kurram due to the closure of the Thall-Parachinar Highway.
The highway has been closed for over four months due to violent clashes between Shia and Sunni tribes in the area. Closure of the highway, which is the main road leading to the district, has meant that the area has been virtually cut off from the entire country. The closure has led to severe shortages of essential goods in the area.
