A bombing outside a bank in Afghanistan’s Kunduz province killed at least five people and injured another seven on Tuesday.
The blast occurred outside a Kabul Bank branch in Kunduz city, as people gathered to collect their salaries. The explosion took place at 8:35 am, according to multiple reports.
Jumadin Khaksar, police spokesman for Kunduz, confirmed that the attack was a suicide bombing using improvised devices.
Khaksar also revealed that members of the Taliban were among those killed. Also among the dead were civilians and civil servants. One of the deceased has been identified as the security guard of the bank.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. However, Khasar said an investigation has been launched to find and apprehend those behind the attack.
Bombing attacks, once a frequent occurrence, have declined in number since Taliban came to power in Afghanistan in 2021 after the withdrawal of the United States army.
However, the country has been facing a threat from the Islamic State’s Khorasan chapter. While Taliban claim to have defeated the ISIS-K, attacks across the country continue to take place.
In response to a recent statement by US President Donald Trump about handing over weapons left behind during the withdrawal, the Taliban government said that more weapons are needed to fight ISIS-K.
