According to Indian media, at least eight people were killed and 27 injured late Friday evening in a massive explosion involving a cache of seized explosives inside a police station in Srinagar, Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). India’s NDTV, citing sources, reported that the casualties primarily included police officers and forensic team personnel who were inspecting the explosives stored there.
This blast occurred just four days after a deadly car bombing in Delhi that killed at least eight people, which India labeled as an act of terrorism. The ammonium nitrate-based explosives stored at the police station were reportedly seized earlier in November as part of a wider investigation that led to multiple arrests in IIOJK, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi. Police state this investigation is linked to the recent car bomb attack.
The explosion outside Delhi’s historic Red Fort on Monday evening killed eight and injured at least 20, marking the first incident of its kind in the densely populated city since 2011. Authorities are investigating a potential connection between the car blast and the recent arrests of seven individuals in Kashmir for possessing weapons and bomb-making material. Senior Indian leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have vowed to punish those responsible for the Delhi blast.
