Cybercrime Agency Files Case Against KP Chief Minister

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has registered a case against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi. He is accused of allegedly uploading and promoting “false, misleading, and derogatory” material against state institutions on social media.

The First Information Report (FIR No. 310/2025) alleges that the Chief Minister was involved in circulating a video attributed to him on the YouTube channel ‘Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Official’ (@PTIOfficialPK).

The case has been filed under Sections 11, 20, and 26-A of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), 2016.

According to the FIR, Muhammad Sohail Afridi “maliciously and deliberately made false and baseless allegations” intended to harm and defame the reputation of Pakistan’s state institutions. Investigators have labelled the act as a “systematic attempt to undermine public trust, spread unrest, and destabilize national security.”

This action by the NCCIA, targeting a politician for alleged contempt of state institutions, comes as the same agency faces a separate, high-profile corruption investigation.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is simultaneously probing senior officers of the NCCIA on charges of multi-Million rupee corruption and extortion.

The FIA’s Anti-Corruption Circle (ACC) has registered a case against senior officers of the NCCIA Rawalpindi wing for their alleged involvement in a large bribery and extortion network. This network was reportedly connected to illegal call centres operated by Chinese nationals.

Further investigations into both matters are currently underway.
