President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, held an important meeting with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in Doha. During the meeting, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen the historic and brotherly ties between their countries.
The Emir of Qatar expressed pride in Pakistan and its achievements, and praised the positive role of the Pakistani community in Qatar’s development. He also expressed a desire to see the number of Pakistanis in Qatar increase in the future.
President Zardari conveyed best wishes to the Emir on behalf of the Government and people of Pakistan and appreciated Qatar’s remarkable development under his visionary leadership.
On the occasion, the Emir of Qatar welcomed the Pakistan-Saudi Arabia defence agreement, calling it timely and positive. He also acknowledged Pakistan’s unique position in maintaining relations simultaneously with China, Western countries, and the Gulf nations.
President Zardari proposed expanding bilateral cooperation in defence, defence production, agriculture, and food security. The Emir immediately accepted the proposal and instructed relevant authorities to initiate prompt cooperation.
President Zardari also appreciated Qatar’s role in hosting the Doha talks and its positive engagement on Afghanistan. The Emir expressed hope that Pakistan and Afghanistan would resolve current issues and overcome recent challenges.
A key outcome of the meeting was the Emir of Qatar’s acceptance of President Zardari’s invitation to visit Pakistan in early next year. The meeting was attended by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and the Pakistani ambassador.
