The process of Afghan refugee families returning to their homeland through the Torkham border in Khyber district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has seen an unusual surge. Officials say that over the past two days, more than 14,000 Afghan refugees have crossed the border back into Afghanistan.
Sources report that this return process is continuing without interruption, with thousands of Afghan nationals heading home. According to official figures, 7,935 Afghan citizens returned on Saturday, while another 6,619 crossed the border on Sunday. In total, 14,554 Afghan refugees completed their journey back over just two days.
Officials added that many of those returning are women, children, and elderly people, traveling with their household belongings on foot or by various vehicles through the Torkham border. Authorities said that more than 7,000 families have returned during this two-day period, highlighting the recent surge in repatriation.
