The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) achieved a historic milestone in the country’s space program on Sunday. Pakistan’s first hyperspectral satellite was successfully launched into space from a satellite launch center in China.

According to a statement by SUPARCO, the satellite, designated HS-1, is equipped with advanced hyperspectral imaging technology. This technology has the exceptional capability to acquire data across hundreds of narrow spectral bands. This will enable highly accurate and detailed analysis of land use, vegetation health, water resource management, and urban development.

SUPARCO stated that the high-resolution data provided by this satellite will significantly enhance Pakistan’s national capabilities in areas like precision agriculture, environmental monitoring, urban planning, and disaster management. The satellite is expected to assist in better resource management and strengthen Pakistan’s resilience against challenges related to climate change.

The HS-1 satellite is also poised to play a key role in important developmental initiatives, such as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). It will help in the timely identification of Geo-hazard Risks and promote the development of sustainable infrastructure.

This historic achievement by SUPARCO is a testament to Pakistan’s commitment to leveraging space technology for national development. The success also highlights the long-standing collaboration between Pakistan and China for the peaceful exploration of space and socio-economic progress.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, paid tribute to the Pakistani and Chinese scientific and technical teams involved in the HS-1 project for their dedication, professionalism, and exemplary cooperation.
