Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Monday, that his government has nominated President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Sharif stated that Trump played a crucial role in preventing a major conflict between Pakistan and India, thereby saving the region from a devastating catastrophe.

During a press conference in London, the Prime Minister highlighted Trump’s intervention, which he said de-escalated tensions between the two nuclear-armed nations. If Trump had not intervened in the Pakistan-India crisis, there would have been widespread destruction and loss of life, Sharif said. He further noted that Trump has also successfully mediated disputes between Ethiopia and Egypt, and even between Ukraine and Russia.

The Prime Minister described his recent trip to Washington for the 80th UN General Assembly as very successful. A key highlight, according to Sharif, was a joint meeting on Gaza that Trump co-chaired at the UN headquarters. Pakistan, Qatar, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, and Indonesia were all invited to this session.

Sharif said the discussions were highly productive and that he expects a positive outcome soon, leading to a ceasefire in the ongoing war in Gaza. He condemned the tyranny and barbarism against innocent Muslims in Gaza and affirmed that Pakistan has raised a strong voice at the UN and expressed full solidarity with its Palestinian brothers and sisters.
