India Refuses Asia Cup 2025 Trophy, Sparking Controversy with Pakistan Cricket Board

In a highly unusual turn of events following their victory in the Asia Cup 2025 final, the Indian cricket team refused to accept the championship trophy during the post-match ceremony on Sunday.

According to reports, the decision was a directive from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The team reportedly objected to receiving the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

The situation escalated as Naqvi reportedly stood firm, refusing to alter his position despite pressure from the Indian side. This led to the ceremony concluding without the winners being presented with the trophy. Ceremony presenter Simon Doull confirmed the tension, stating he was informed that the Indian team would not be accepting their honors that evening.

Speaking to reporters afterward, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav gave ambiguous answers regarding the trophy. We were never told anything about the trophy, he said. We felt the trophy in our soul.
He also voiced his frustration, claiming he had never witnessed a winning team not receive its trophy in his entire career.

This incident was not the first sign of tension. Earlier in the day, Yadav had reportedly refused to shake hands with Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha for the third time during the toss, highlighting the ongoing off-field friction between the two sides.

In a show of sportsmanship, the Pakistani players, despite their defeat, participated in the ceremony and accepted their runner-up medals. The entire episode has drawn significant attention within the global cricket community, reigniting concerns about politics interfering with the spirit of the game.
